💻 What is a Computer?

A computer is an electronic device that can store, retrieve, and process data. It follows instructions (called programs) to perform a wide variety of tasks, such as calculations, word processing, internet browsing, playing music, and much more.

🔧 Basic Parts of a Computer

  1. Hardware – The physical parts of the computer.

    • CPU (Central Processing Unit): The brain of the computer that processes data.

    • Monitor: Displays the output (like a screen).

    • Keyboard: Used to input text and commands.

    • Mouse: Used to point and click on items.

    • RAM (Memory): Temporary storage the computer uses while working.

    • Hard Drive / SSD: Permanent storage for data and programs.

  2. Software – The programs and operating systems that run on the computer.

    • Operating System (OS): Manages hardware and software (e.g., Windows, macOS, Linux).

    • Applications: Programs like MS Word, browsers, games, etc.

  • Desktop: A personal computer for regular use.

  • Laptop: Portable and battery-powered computer.

  • Tablet/Smartphone: Touchscreen devices with computing power.

  • Server: Powerful systems that store and manage data for other computers.

  • Input: Entering data using devices like keyboard/mouse.

  • Processing: The CPU processes the input data.

  • Storage: Saving the data in memory or disk.

  • Output: Displaying results using a monitor or printer.
